Attics, foam and fumes
Insulation crews work in attics, crawl spaces and wall cavities, often near wiring and recessed lights, where a mistake can start a fire or cause water damage later. Spray foam adds chemical exposure: odor complaints, off-gassing claims and overspray on a customer's car or home.
California licenses this trade through the Contractors State License Board as C-2 Insulation and Acoustical work. I write batt and blown-in installers in standard markets and place spray foam work where it's accepted, often in surplus lines, with pollution coverage alongside.

Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- License: CSLB classification (such as C-2).
- Work: batt, blown-in, spray foam and removal by share.
- Customers: homeowners, builders or commercial.
- Equipment and vehicles: rigs, trailers and vans.
- Revenue and payroll: annual figures and crew size.
- History: current policies and claims.
Insulation contractor insurance, answered
Why is spray foam harder to insure?
Odor, off-gassing and overspray claims have pushed many standard markets away from it. Surplus lines markets often write it, usually with pollution coverage.
Does my policy cover an attic fire after we install?
Completed operations coverage often responds to damage blamed on finished work, subject to the policy terms.
Do I need a license for insulation work?
Contract work over the CSLB threshold needs a license. C-2 covers insulation and acoustical work.
Are my rigs covered on a job site?
Spray rigs and blowing machines need tools and equipment coverage. Trailers and trucks go on commercial auto.
Do you offer insulation contractor insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way.
