The exclusion to look for first
Many general liability policies exclude pollution, and pesticides count. A pest control company needs a policy that covers the chemicals it applies, plus errors and omissions for wood-destroying pest inspections and reports.
I place pest control and termite companies with carriers that write the class, and check the pollution wording before anything is bound.
- General liabilityIncluding pesticide and herbicide application.
- Errors and omissionsTermite inspection reports and treatment advice.
- Workers' compTechnicians and fumigation crews.
- Commercial autoService trucks and the chemicals they carry.
What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Services: general pest, termite, fumigation, wildlife, with rough percentages.
- Reports: how many wood-destroying pest reports you issue a year.
- License: your Structural Pest Control Board registration and branch.
- Chemicals: what you apply and whether you fumigate.
- Payroll and revenue: technicians and gross receipts.
- History: current policies and loss runs.
Pest control insurance, answered
Does general liability cover pesticide claims?
Only if the policy covers them. Many policies exclude pollution, which includes pesticides, so pest control needs a policy written for the class.
Do termite companies need errors and omissions?
Yes. A missed infestation in an inspection report is a professional mistake, and general liability usually won't respond to it.
What does the Structural Pest Control Board require?
Registered companies have bond and insurance requirements tied to their license. Send me your registration and I'll match the coverage to it.
Is fumigation rated differently?
Yes. Tenting and fumigation carry more risk than routine service and must be disclosed.
Do you offer pest control insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
Send your services. I'll shop it.
