Your venue wants a certificate. Your deposits need protecting.
Wedding liability for the venue's certificate, and cancellation or postponement coverage for the deposits you can't get back.

Two kinds of wedding coverage
Wedding liability covers injuries to guests and damage to the venue during your event. Most California venues require it and ask to be named as additional insured, often with host liquor coverage if you serve alcohol.
Cancellation and postponement coverage reimburses non-refundable costs when the wedding is cancelled or moved for a covered reason, such as severe weather, a serious illness, or a vendor that goes out of business. You can buy either one, or both together.
- Guest injuriesSomeone hurt at the reception.
- Venue damageDamage to the property you rented.
- Host liquorWhen alcohol is served but not sold.
- CancellationNon-refundable deposits, for covered reasons.
What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Date: the wedding date and any related events.
- Venue: name, address and its insurance requirements.
- Guests: expected number of guests.
- Budget: your total costs and deposits paid.
- Alcohol: served free, cash bar, or none.
- Coverage: liability, cancellation, or both.
Wedding insurance, answered
Why does my venue require wedding insurance?
Venues want your policy to respond first if a guest is hurt or the property is damaged, and ask to be named as additional insured.
What does cancellation coverage pay for?
Non-refundable costs when the wedding is cancelled or postponed for a covered reason. Known issues before you buy aren't covered, and cold feet usually isn't either.
How early should I buy it?
Cancellation coverage as soon as you start paying deposits. Liability can be bought closer to the date, before the venue's deadline.
Does it cover alcohol?
Host liquor can be included when alcohol is served free. If a licensed caterer serves, the venue may also ask for their certificate.
Do you offer wedding insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
Send the venue's requirements. I'll shop it.
The date, the venue and the guest count are enough to start.
