Customers' devices, property and theft, general and product liability, cyber and workers' comp for phone, computer, TV and office machine repair shops.

Devices, batteries and data
A repair shop holds a lot of other people's property: phones, laptops and tablets worth more than the shop's own fixtures, plus the personal data stored on them. Small, valuable and easy to resell, those devices draw break-ins, and swollen lithium batteries are a fire risk on the bench and in the parts drawer.
I build coverage for that mix: property and theft for stock and parts, coverage for customers' devices in your care, general and product liability including refurbished devices you sell, cyber for data you touch during repairs, and workers' comp. Shops that work on-site at offices often add errors and omissions.
- Customers' devicesFire and theft while devices are with you.
- PropertyParts, tools, stock and improvements.
- CyberCustomer data exposed during a repair.
- Product liabilityRefurbished devices and accessories you sell.
What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Shop: address and security (alarm, safe, cameras).
- Devices: typical number and value on hand.
- Work: in-shop, on-site or mail-in.
- Sales: used or refurbished devices you sell.
- Revenue and payroll: annual figures.
- History: current policies and claims.
Electronics repair insurance, answered
If a phone breaks while I'm fixing it, am I covered?
Usually not. Damage to the item you're working on is commonly excluded from general liability. Customers' property coverage handles fire or theft of devices in your care; clear written repair terms handle the rest.
What if a customer's data leaks after a repair?
General liability isn't built for that. Cyber coverage can pay for notification, defense and covered claims, subject to the policy.
Do I need to register with the state?
California's Bureau of Household Goods and Services registers electronic and appliance repair dealers. Check whether your work requires it; I'll note the registration on your application.
Is a battery fire covered?
Fire is a covered cause on most property forms, subject to the policy. Insurers ask how you store damaged or swollen batteries, so keep them in a fire-safe container.
Do you offer electronics repair insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
