Showroom, warehouse and delivery truck.
Inventory, showroom liability, delivery vehicles, damage done inside customers' homes and workers' comp for furniture, mattress, lighting and home decor stores.

Big pieces, heavy lifting
A furniture store's money sits in its inventory: sofas, mattresses, glassware and lighting in the showroom, plus more in a back warehouse. Most of the injuries happen moving it, on the loading dock or on a customer's stairs, and a dropped dresser can gouge a client's floor or door frame.
I build these around property with enough inventory limit for your busiest season, general liability that reaches in-home delivery and setup, commercial auto for the trucks, and workers' comp for the crew that lifts.

What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Store: address, square footage and sprinklers.
- Inventory: value at its seasonal peak.
- Delivery: trucks, drivers and whether you assemble in homes.
- Warehouse: any off-site storage.
- Revenue and payroll: annual figures.
- History: current policies and claims.
Furniture store insurance, answered
Does my policy cover damage my crew does in a customer's home?
General liability often responds when your delivery crew damages a customer's walls or floors, subject to the policy terms. Damage to the piece you're delivering is a property or inland marine question.
What if my inventory is higher before a holiday sale?
Ask for a peak season endorsement or set the limit at your highest point. An inventory limit sized for a slow month can leave you short after a fire.
Do I need commercial auto for one delivery van?
Yes. A personal auto policy usually excludes a vehicle used mainly for business deliveries.
Do I need a state license to sell mattresses or upholstered furniture?
California's Bureau of Household Goods and Services licenses sellers of upholstered furniture and bedding. Check with the Bureau for your store.
Do you offer furniture store insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way.
