How it works

The service itself is the exposure

Salon claims usually come from the service: a chemical burn, an allergic reaction, an infection or a cut. That's professional liability, and it's often left off a basic business policy. Slip-and-falls, damage to equipment and a closed shop after a fire or water leak are the rest of the picture.

Booth renters and independent stylists need their own coverage, and landlords usually require the salon's policy to name them. I package salon coverage around your services, staff and space.

  • Professional liabilityInjuries or damage from the services you perform.
  • General liabilitySlips, falls and damage to others' property.

Questions

Salon insurance, answered

Does general liability cover a client's reaction to a treatment?

Usually not. Injuries from the service itself fall under professional liability, which should be on the policy.

Do booth renters need their own insurance?

Yes. Most salon policies don't cover independent booth renters, and many salons require renters to carry their own.

Is workers' comp required for a salon?

Yes, once you have employees. California requires it.

What do underwriters rate on?

The services you offer, revenue, staff, location and claims history.

Do you offer salon insurance outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
