How it works

Three core coverages, one policy

A BOP combines the coverages most small businesses need first, usually at a lower cost than buying them separately.

Eligibility depends on your industry, size and revenue. When a business doesn’t fit, I place the coverages separately.

  • PropertyYour building if you own it, plus equipment, inventory and furniture.
  • General liabilityInjuries and property damage to others arising from your business.
  • Business incomeLost income and extra expenses after a covered property loss.
  • Not includedWorkers’ comp, commercial auto and professional liability are separate.

Questions

Business owner’s policy, answered

What does a BOP cover?

Typically commercial property, general liability and business income in one policy. Workers’ comp, commercial auto and professional liability are separate.

Is my business eligible for a BOP?

Many small offices, retailers and service businesses are. Eligibility depends on industry, size and the carrier.

Does a BOP cover my employees’ injuries?

No. Employee injuries are covered by workers’ compensation.

My landlord requires insurance. Will a BOP work?

Often yes. Send me the lease’s insurance section so the limits and additional insured wording match.

Do you offer a business owner’s policy outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
