How it works

Hot oil, crowds and someone else's building

Most concession stands operate inside a space someone else controls: a ballpark, a city park, a pool, a fairground or a theater lobby. That venue writes the insurance terms into the concession agreement, usually asking for set liability limits, additional insured wording and a certificate before you open. Fryers, popcorn kettles and hot dog rollers add burn and fire risk in tight quarters.

I place concessionaires with general and product liability as the base, add coverage for equipment that moves between locations, and include workers' comp for seasonal staff. Before anything is bound, I read the concession agreement so the policy lines up with it.

Questions

Concession stand insurance, answered

What do venues usually require?

Most require general liability at stated limits, additional insured status for the venue and a certificate before you open. Some also require liquor liability and workers' comp.

Does selling beer change my policy?

Yes. Alcohol sales need liquor liability, which a standard general liability policy usually excludes.

Is my equipment covered at more than one location?

Only if the policy covers it away from a listed address. I set equipment coverage to follow it between sites.

Can I insure just for the season?

Some markets write seasonal or short-term policies. Others write a year and adjust for the months you operate.

Do you offer concession stand insurance outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way.
