Heavy stone, handled with care.

Property for granite and bronze stock, liability for setting markers in cemeteries, engraving shop coverage, trucks with booms and workers' comp for monument dealers.

How it works

Yards, cranes and cemeteries

A monument dealer is part showroom, part stone shop and part installer. Sandblasting and engraving throw dust, boom trucks lift stones that weigh hundreds of pounds, and setting crews work in cemeteries next to other families' markers.

The usual claims are a damaged neighboring headstone, a marker that settles or tips, or an injury moving stone. I cover the yard and shop, the trucks and the setting work together.

Questions

Monument dealer insurance, answered

What if my crew chips a neighboring headstone?

General liability often responds to damage to others' property during your work, subject to the policy terms.

Do cemeteries ask for proof of insurance?

Many require a certificate before you set a marker. I issue those.

Is a stone damaged in transit covered?

Stock in transit usually needs inland marine coverage. Auto insurance doesn't cover the load.

Does sandblasting affect workers' comp?

It can. Dust controls and respirators help when underwriters review your shop.

Do you offer monument dealer insurance outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
