A maker and a bar
A craft beverage business is a manufacturer and often a bar. Product liability covers what you sell and distribute; liquor liability covers the tasting room and events. A refrigeration or tank failure can spoil a season's production.
I place breweries, wineries and distilleries with carriers that write craft beverage programs, and set spoilage and equipment limits to match your inventory.
- Liquor liabilityTasting rooms, taprooms and events.
- Product liabilityWhat you bottle, can and distribute.
- SpoilageProduct lost to equipment or power failure.
- Property and equipmentTanks, barrels, bottling lines and buildings.
What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Production: what you make and annual volume.
- Sales: tasting room, distribution, events and percentages of each.
- License: your ABC license type.
- Property: buildings, tanks, barrels and inventory values.
- Payroll and revenue: staff and gross receipts.
- History: current policies and any claims.
Brewery and winery insurance, answered
Do I need liquor liability if I make the alcohol?
Yes, if you serve it in a tasting room, taproom or at events. Product liability covers what you sell packaged; liquor liability covers serving.
Is spoiled product covered?
With spoilage coverage, when it's caused by things like refrigeration or power failure. Standard property policies often exclude it.
Are tanks and bottling lines covered?
Yes, as business property, and equipment breakdown covers mechanical and electrical failure.
Is a vineyard covered?
Growing operations are usually written separately as farm coverage. I can coordinate both.
Do you offer brewery and winery insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
Tell me what you make. I'll shop it.
Production volume, sales channels and your current declarations page are enough to start.
