Venues, cities and parks usually require event liability naming them as additional insured before they'll confirm your date. A special event policy covers injuries and property damage arising from the event, for the dates you choose.

If alcohol is served, the venue will usually ask for host liquor or liquor liability too, depending on who serves and whether it's sold. I place event coverage based on the event type, attendance and the venue's requirements.

  • Venue damageDamage to the venue you rented, subject to policy terms.

Questions

Special event insurance, answered

Why does my venue require event insurance?

Venues want the event's own policy to respond first if a guest is hurt or the property is damaged, and ask to be named as additional insured on it.

Does event insurance cover alcohol?

Host liquor can be included when alcohol is served for free. If it's sold, or a bar is licensed, liquor liability is usually needed.

How far ahead should I buy it?

As soon as the venue gives you its requirements, so the certificate is ready before your final payment deadline.

Can vendors get coverage?

Yes. Caterers, bartenders, DJs and exhibitors often need their own certificate for each venue.

Do you offer special event insurance outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
