How it works

Heat, resin and parts inside other products

Plastics plants run hot. Molding and extrusion lines, heaters and stored resin make fire the main property exposure, and plastic stock burns fast. Presses and grinders also bring crush and amputation risk, so machine guarding and workers' comp are central.

Many molders make parts that end up inside someone else's product, from plumbing fittings to automotive or medical components. If that product fails, the part maker is often named, so I tell carriers exactly what your parts go into.

Questions

Plastics manufacturer insurance, answered

Are customers' molds in my plant covered?

Molds your customers own need coverage for property of others, which isn't automatic. List them with their values.

Do aerospace, auto or medical parts change things?

Yes. Many carriers limit or exclude those uses. Disclose them so the policy covers what you actually make.

Is a recall of my parts covered?

Product liability usually excludes recall costs. Recall coverage is bought separately.

Does product liability cover a part that just doesn't work?

Generally it covers injury or damage to other property, not the cost of replacing your own defective part.

Do you offer plastics manufacturer insurance outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
