Most of the risk is on the road and the stairs
A junk removal business is a trucking business and a labor business at the same time. Loaded trucks and trailers drive the auto premium, crews lifting furniture and appliances drive workers' comp, and carrying heavy items through a customer's home leads to damaged walls, floors and doorframes.
Hauling alone is different from light demolition such as tearing out a shed, deck or cabinets, which generally requires a CSLB license when the job is $1,000 or more in labor and materials combined. Tell me everything your crews do so the policy matches, including what you haul and where it ends up.

- General liabilityDamage to customers' homes and injuries to people at the job.
- Workers' compLifting and loading injuries, required once you have employees.

Junk removal insurance, answered
What insurance does a junk removal business need?
Most need commercial auto for the trucks, general liability for damage at customers' homes, and workers' comp once they hire anyone. Equipment coverage and an umbrella are common additions as the business grows.
Can I use my personal truck for junk removal?
A personal auto policy may not cover a vehicle used to haul for pay. Tell your carrier how the truck is used, and put it on a commercial auto policy if it's used for the business.
Does general liability cover hauling hazardous items?
Often not. Many policies exclude pollution, which can include paint, chemicals, oil and some e-waste. If you haul those items, check the wording or add pollution coverage.
Do I need a contractor license for junk removal?
It depends on the work. Hauling alone is different from demolition or tear-out, which generally requires a CSLB license when the job is $1,000 or more in labor and materials combined. Check the CSLB's rules before taking on that work.
Do you offer junk removal insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
Tell me about your trucks. I'll shop it.
Your vehicles, crew size and revenue are enough to start.
