Errors and omissions coverage for California notaries public, loan signing agents and mobile notaries, to sit alongside the bond the state requires.

The bond protects the public, not you
Every California notary files an oath and a surety bond with the county. That bond pays a person harmed by a notary's mistake, then the bond company can come back to the notary to be repaid. It does nothing for your legal defense.
Notary errors and omissions insurance is the part that protects you: it pays defense and covered claims when someone says you misidentified a signer, missed a journal entry or thumbprint, or notarized a forged deed. Loan signing agents usually need it anyway, since signing services and title companies ask for proof of E&O.
- Notary E&ODefense and claims for notarization mistakes.
- Surety bondRequired by the state; protects the public.
- General liabilityInjuries at an office where you meet signers.

What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Commission: county and expiration date.
- Work: general, loan signings or both.
- Volume: how many notarizations or signings you do.
- Requirements: limits your signing services ask for.
- Employer: whether you notarize for an employer.
- History: complaints or claims.
Notary insurance, answered
Isn't my notary bond enough?
No. The bond pays the injured person and the bond company can seek repayment from you. E&O is what pays your defense and covered claims.
Does E&O cover a forged deed claim?
If the claim says you notarized a forged signature by mistake, notary E&O often responds, subject to the policy. Intentional misconduct is excluded. A complete journal, ID notes and the thumbprint California requires for real property documents are your best defense.
Do loan signing agents need more coverage?
Signing services and title companies set their own E&O limits, often higher than a general notary carries. Send me their requirements and I'll match them.
My employer pays for my commission. Am I covered?
Maybe not. An employer's policy may only cover notarizations done for the employer's business. If you notarize on the side, carry your own E&O.
Do you offer notary errors and omissions insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way.
