Patients, procedures and records
Podiatry patients are often older or diabetic, and many come in with pain or limited mobility. A slip in the waiting room or a fall off an exam chair is a general liability claim, separate from malpractice. Insurers also look at the procedures you do in the office, from nail and wound care to minor surgery and imaging.
Podiatrists in California are licensed by the Podiatric Medical Board. I place malpractice with markets that write podiatry, then build the office side: property for X-ray and laser equipment, business income, cyber for patient records, and workers' comp for medical assistants and front desk staff.
- Medical malpracticeClaims from diagnosis and treatment.
- General liabilityPatient falls and office injuries.
- Property and equipmentX-ray, lasers, chairs and supplies.
- Cyber liabilityPatient records and billing data.
What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Practice: address, doctors and staff.
- Procedures: in-office surgery, imaging, lasers.
- Products: orthotics or footwear you sell.
- Equipment: values of major items.
- Revenue and payroll: annual figures.
- History: current malpractice and office policies.
Podiatrist insurance, answered
Does malpractice cover a patient fall in my lobby?
Usually not. Malpractice covers professional services. A fall in the lobby is general liability, which is why I quote both.
Do I sell orthotics? Does that change anything?
Yes. Selling orthotics, braces or footwear adds a product exposure. Tell me what you dispense so the liability reflects it.
Is my X-ray machine covered if it breaks?
Property covers it for fire and theft. Electrical or mechanical breakdown usually needs equipment breakdown coverage.
Should I worry about cyber?
Yes. Practices hold medical and billing data, and a breach can bring notification costs and regulatory issues. Cyber coverage handles much of that, subject to the policy.
Do you offer podiatrist insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
