Regulators, boards and a target on the vault
Banks and credit unions face claims from every direction: regulators, shareholders or members suing the board, borrowers alleging lender liability, and employees who steal or fall for a fake wire request. Federally insured credit unions must carry fidelity bond coverage under federal rules, and bank examiners look closely at bond and D&O limits.
I place financial institutions as a program: the financial institution bond for theft and fraud, D&O and bankers professional liability for the board and lending, cyber for account data and online banking, and EPLI and property for the branches. Holding company offices are fit in under the same program.

- Directors and officersClaims against the board and executives.

- Professional liabilityLending and service errors claimed by customers.

- Board: directors, committees and any regulatory orders.
- Lending: loan mix and servicing.
- Technology: online banking, core processor and security controls.
- History: current bond and policies, losses and exam findings.
Bank and credit union insurance, answered
Is a fidelity bond required?
Federally insured credit unions must carry fidelity bond coverage under federal rules. Banks generally carry a financial institution bond because examiners and boards expect it.
Does D&O cover regulatory actions?
Many D&O policies cover defense of certain regulatory claims, subject to the policy terms. Some exclude or limit actions by bank regulators, so the wording matters.
Does the bond cover a cyber loss?
Bonds and cyber policies overlap in some areas and leave gaps in others, such as funds transfer fraud. I review both side by side.
Is this only for large banks?
No. Small community banks and credit unions need the same core coverages, sized to their assets and branches.
Do you offer bank and credit union insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way.
