Built in the shop, hung up high.

Fabrication, wiring and work in the air
Sign companies wear two hats. In the shop, you're a manufacturer with routers, welders, vinyl plotters and paint. On site, you're a contractor working from ladders, lifts and bucket trucks above sidewalks and parking lots.
The biggest claims come from a sign that falls, an electrical sign that sparks a fire, or a worker who falls during install. Contracting work in California, including sign installation, generally needs a CSLB license. I place general and product liability, shop property, auto and workers' comp to fit both sides.
- General liabilityInjuries and damage during installation.
- Products and completed operationsClaims after a sign you built or installed fails.
- Inland marineSigns in transit and install equipment.
- Workers' compFalls, cuts and electrical injuries.
What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Work: fabrication, installation or both.
- Heights: highest install height and equipment used.
- Signs: electrical, non-electrical or both.
- License: CSLB number and classification.
- Revenue and payroll: shop and field split.
- History: current policies and any past claims.
Sign company insurance, answered
Does install height change my insurance?
Yes. Insurers ask your maximum height, and work above a set height can limit which markets will write you.
What if a sign falls years later?
Completed operations coverage can respond after the job ends, subject to the policy and limits in force.
Do I need a license to install signs?
Contracting work in California generally needs a CSLB license. The C-45 Sign classification covers electrical and non-electrical signs.
Are my customers' signs covered in my shop?
Property you're working on may need its own coverage. Tell me the typical value of signs in your shop.
Do you offer sign company insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
