How it works

Height, wind and anchors

Awning installers work on ladders and lifts above sidewalks, patios and storefront entries. The bigger claims come after the job: a frame that pulls loose in a wind storm and lands on a pedestrian, or anchor holes that let water into a stucco or masonry wall.

I place general liability that keeps completed work covered, workers' comp for crews working at height, property for the shop where you cut fabric and weld frames, contractor auto and tools. Event tents and temporary structures are a different risk, and I place them separately if you do both.

Questions

Awning contractor insurance, answered

If wind tears down an awning I installed, am I covered?

Injury and damage to other property from your finished work is a completed operations claim, often covered by general liability, subject to the policy. Replacing the awning itself usually isn't.

What license do I need?

Awning work is licensed by the Contractors State License Board, commonly under the C-61/D-3 Awnings limited specialty classification. I'll match the policy to your license class.

Do you cover tents and event canopies too?

Temporary structures are usually excluded from an awning class. If you rent or set up tents, I place that separately.

We build frames in our own shop. Does that change anything?

Yes. Fabrication adds product liability and shop property. Tell me what you build in-house so the policy rates both.

Do you offer awning contractor insurance outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
