C-8 licensees must carry workers' comp
California requires C-8 concrete licensees to carry workers' compensation whether or not they have employees. Without it, the license is suspended.
Concrete work also brings completed-work claims such as cracked slabs, settling foundations and drainage problems. I place concrete contractors with carriers that write the trade, including foundation and structural work.
- Workers' compRequired for every C-8 license.
- General liabilityProperty damage and completed-work claims.
- EquipmentMixers, pumps, saws and forms.
- Commercial autoTrucks and trailers.
What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- License: CSLB number and classifications.
- Work: flatwork, foundations, structural or decorative.
- Equipment: pumps and heavy equipment, and their value.
- Payroll: employees, payroll and subcontractor costs.
- Revenue: annual gross receipts.
- History: current policies and loss runs.
Concrete contractor insurance, answered
Do concrete contractors need workers' comp with no employees?
Yes. CSLB requires C-8 licensees to carry workers' compensation whether or not they have employees.
Does liability cover a cracked slab?
Liability can cover damage to other property caused by your work. Repairing or replacing your own work is typically not covered.
Is my equipment covered?
Only with inland marine or equipment coverage.
Can I get coverage for foundation work?
Yes, though fewer carriers write it. Disclose it so the policy responds.
Do you offer concrete contractor insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
Send your license number. I'll shop it.
Your CSLB number, payroll and revenue are enough to start.
