How it works

Agreed value, not a debate after a loss

Homeowners policies limit coverage for collectibles and may pay actual cash value after a loss. A collections policy lists items at an agreed value, so the amount paid for a covered total loss is settled in advance.

Collections can be scheduled item by item or covered on a blanket basis with a per-item limit, and can be written for collections owned by a trust or company.

  • Agreed valueThe value set when the policy starts.
  • Scheduled or blanketItem by item, or the whole collection.
  • TransitItems shipped, loaned or worn.
  • BreakageAccidental breakage of fragile pieces, where included.

Questions

Fine art and collectibles insurance, answered

Doesn't my homeowners policy cover my art?

Up to its limits and terms. Collections policies cover items at agreed values, often for broader causes of loss.

Do I need appraisals?

For higher-value pieces, yes. Carriers often require them above a set value.

Is my collection covered when it's loaned to a museum?

It can be. Tell me about loans and shipping so they're included.

Can a trust own the policy?

Yes. Many carriers write collections owned by a trust or company.

Do you offer fine art and collectibles insurance outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. California policies are placed directly; outside California the request is handled together with a partner agency in your state, and the shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state or high-value home insurance by state.
