Nut butters, cold-press and a busy counter
Juice bars blend peanut butter, almond milk and protein powders in the same machines as everything else, so allergen cross-contact is the claim I see owners worry about most. Fresh produce spoils fast if a cooler fails, cold-press equipment is costly to replace, and staff cut fruit all day.
I put juice bars in a package with property, equipment breakdown and spoilage, plus general and product liability. Franchise locations get matched to the franchisor's insurance requirements before I send anything for a quote.
- Product liabilityAllergen and foodborne illness claims.
- Equipment breakdownCold presses, blenders and walk-in coolers.
- SpoilageProduce lost to a cooler failure or power outage.
- Workers' compKnife cuts, slips and repetitive strain for staff.
What underwriters will ask
Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.
- Shop: address, square footage and seating.
- Menu: juices, smoothies, bowls, supplements and any food prep.
- Equipment: presses, blenders and refrigeration values.
- Franchise: franchisor name and its insurance requirements, if any.
- Revenue and payroll: annual figures and staff count.
- History: current policies and any claims.
Juice bar insurance, answered
Are allergy reactions covered?
Product liability can respond to claims from drinks and food you serve, subject to the policy terms. Clear menu labeling and separate blender jars for nut items help.
Is spoiled produce covered after an outage?
With spoilage coverage added, often yes. A standard property policy alone may not cover food lost to a power failure.
Does a franchise juice bar need special coverage?
Franchisors usually set limits, additional insured wording and sometimes required coverages. I start from your franchise agreement.
What about supplements and protein add-ins?
Tell me what you add. Some insurers ask about supplements separately, and disclosing them keeps the product coverage accurate.
Do you offer juice bar insurance outside California?
Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
