Boxes to the ceiling, customers on ladders.

Property for inventory and stockrooms, general liability, crime and theft, product liability and workers' comp for shoe stores, sneaker shops and orthopedic footwear retailers.

How it works

Stockrooms, sneakers and fittings

Shoe stores keep most of their value in a back room stacked with boxes, which is a fire load and a target. Staff climb ladders and carry stacks all day, so back strains and falls are the common workers' comp claims. Limited-release sneakers can be worth far more than their tags, and resale shops see organized theft.

Orthopedic and comfort shoe stores add a professional piece: fitting, measuring and recommending inserts. If you modify footwear or fill prescriptions, I list it so the right coverage is in place.

  • PropertyInventory, stockroom and fixtures.
  • General liabilityCustomer falls in fitting areas.
  • Workers' compLadders, lifting and stock handling.
  • CrimeEmployee theft and cash.

Before you call

What underwriters will ask

Having these ready means I can go to market on the first call. The quote form asks for the same things, and anything you don’t know yet can wait.

Start the Quote Form

  • Store: address, square footage and stockroom size.
  • Stock: peak inventory value and any high-value pairs.
  • Selling: in store, online, or resale platforms.
  • Services: fittings, orthotics or modifications.
  • Security: alarm, cameras and cash handling.
  • Revenue and payroll: annual figures and claims history.
Questions

Shoe store insurance, answered

How should I value rare sneakers?

Property usually pays your cost, not the resale price, unless the policy says otherwise. Tell me what you paid and what they sell for so I can find a form that fits.

Does a customer twisting an ankle in the store count?

That's a general liability claim, subject to the policy terms. Clear aisles and a stable fitting bench help.

Do orthopedic fittings need professional coverage?

If you only sell and fit, general liability may be enough. If you modify shoes or fill prescriptions, I add professional coverage.

Is online selling covered too?

Online sales should be on the application. Product liability and shipping questions change when you sell beyond the store.

Do you offer shoe store insurance outside California?

Yes. Clients across the country send the same quote form. Sam Alishahi is licensed in 48 states and Washington, DC and places policies there directly. In Florida and Washington, where Sam's licenses are still being issued, a partner agency in your state helps in the meantime. The shopping across carriers works the same way. Rules, minimums and markets differ by state — see insurance requirements by state.
