Short answer: California's FAIR Plan clearinghouse lets participating admitted insurers review eligible FAIR Plan policies and offer regular homeowners or commercial coverage. Admitted insurers get the first 30 days, and then non-admitted insurers can take part. You can opt out of having your information shared. Any offer is optional, so compare it with what you have before switching.
Where it comes from
SB 505 and the FAIR Plan's Commissioner-approved Plan of Operation set up the clearinghouse. The Department of Insurance supervises it, and a later 2026 order updated it.
How it works
- Participating admitted insurers review eligible FAIR Plan policies.
- They get a 30-day first option to make an offer.
- After that, non-admitted (surplus lines) insurers can take part.
- You decide whether to accept.
Before you accept
- Compare deductibles, wildfire coverage and limits.
- Ask whether you'd still need a separate difference-in-conditions policy. See our DIC guide.
