El Paso's flood maps are being redrawn
FEMA and local officials are updating flood maps across El Paso County. FEMA released a preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map on July 2, 2020, and a revised version on November 15, 2023, after the 2021 appeal period. A second 90-day appeal period, covering only the areas that changed, began June 6, 2024. You can see which areas changed in the county viewer linked from the city's flood zones page. Send questions to the City of El Paso Floodplain Administrator.
If your zone changes
The city warns that new maps may move some properties into a high-risk zone, where most lenders must require flood insurance, and take others out of one. Leaving Zone A removes the lender requirement but not the risk. The city notes that more than 40% of NFIP claims in Texas come from policyholders in Zone X. If your zone changes, ask your agent how the new map affects your premium before it takes effect.

The Texas FAIR Plan Association and the TDI FAIR Plan overview explain eligibility and agent submission.
