Short answer: Kentucky life policies must give a 30-day grace period (or one month of at least 30 days) for premiums after the first, during which the policy stays in full force. A policy becomes incontestable after no more than two years in force during the insured's lifetime, except for nonpayment.
This guide is general consumer information for Kentucky life insurance buyers. It isn't legal advice or a coverage determination. Policy wording, underwriting and the statutes linked below control.
Kentucky's 30-day cushion
Under KRS 304.15-060, Kentucky policyholders get thirty days to pay a late renewal premium, or a month that's at least that long if the insurer words it that way. Weekly-pay industrial policies get four weeks instead. Kentucky's section lets the insurer charge interest for the late days; this section doesn't state a percentage cap, so ask what rate your policy uses.
When the application can no longer be challenged
KRS 304.15-080 sets a ceiling of two years from the issue date, measured while the insured is living. After that, the insurer generally can't rescind over application answers. Nonpayment stays a defense, and disability or accidental-death riders can be excluded from the rule. If a policy lapses and is reinstated, KRS 304.15-270 lets the insurer contest the reinstatement for fraud or material misrepresentation only for the same period and on the same terms as after original issue.
