Grace after the first year
D.C. Code §31-4703(a)(2) requires that the insured is entitled to a grace period of at least 30 days or of 1 month within which premiums after the first year may be paid, subject at the company's option to interest not in excess of 6% per year for the grace days. Grace begins on the premium-paying date stated in the policy. If the policy becomes a claim during grace before overdue or deferred premiums of the current year are paid, those premiums (with interest on overdue premiums) may be deducted from the settlement.
