Wichita's flood maps and lender requirements
Wichita's FEMA 100-year floodplain map took effect December 22, 2016, and the city links to it from its floods page. The city warns that some flood determination firms only check whether any part of a lot is in the Special Flood Hazard Area, not whether the house itself is. If your lender requires flood insurance but the house is clearly outside the zone, first ask the lender what documentation they used. Then you can ask FEMA for a free "out as shown" Letter of Map Amendment.
Getting a LOMA
You can apply for a LOMA on paper using the MT-EZ form or through FEMA's Online LOMC. Include a FIRMette, a plat or parcel map, a signed and stamped deed, and an aerial photo showing the house and the flood zone. The city says FEMA usually decides in under 10 days, though it can take a month or more at busy times. Even after an approved LOMA, a lender can still require flood insurance if it sees risk. Wichita's page also covers grandfathering when maps change.
