Short answer: Under 18 Del. C. ch. 41, subch. III, a Delaware homeowners insurer that won't renew your policy must give you written notice at least 30 days before it expires. If you think a notice broke the rules, contact the Delaware Department of Insurance.
The rule
- Notice at least 30 days before the end of the policy period, sent to your last known address
- §4130 limits non-renewal based solely on certain claims, such as weather claims (fewer than 3 in 36 months)

What to do if you get a notice
- Check the dates. Count from when the notice was mailed or delivered.
- Ask your insurer or agent for the specific reason and whether a repair or update would change its decision.
- Start shopping right away. If regular insurers turn you down, ask about Delaware's FAIR Plan or other residual market, if one exists.
- If the notice seems late or vague, file a complaint with the Delaware Department of Insurance.
