Short answer: Under OAC 365:15 (2026), an Oklahoma homeowners insurer that won't renew your policy must give you written notice at least 60 days before it expires. If you think a notice broke the rules, contact the Oklahoma Insurance Department.
The rule
- Generally 60 days' notice before cancelling or non-renewing a homeowners policy
- For a termination related to a first claim, the notice can be shorter: 30 days for non-renewal
- See the Department's Bulletin 2026-02 on the 2026 rule changes

What to do if you get a notice
- Check the dates. Count from when the notice was mailed or delivered.
- Ask your insurer or agent for the specific reason and whether a repair or update would change its decision.
- Start shopping right away. If regular insurers turn you down, ask about Oklahoma's FAIR Plan or other residual market, if one exists.
- If the notice seems late or vague, file a complaint with the Oklahoma Insurance Department.
