Workers’ comp for Michigan trucking companies

Private employers must carry workers' disability compensation coverage if they regularly employ three or more workers at one time. The same applies if at least one worker has worked 35 or more hours a week for 13 weeks or longer in the past 52 weeks. Michigan is not a monopolistic state-fund state, and most employers insure through private carriers. Source

Where Michigan trucks run

The main corridors are I-94, I-75, I-96, I-69 and I-196. The Detroit–Windsor crossings (Ambassador Bridge and the new Gordie Howe bridge) and the Blue Water Bridge at Port Huron are among the busiest US–Canada truck gateways. The busiest freight markets include Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, Kalamazoo and Saginaw.

Michigan allows multi-axle trucks to run up to 164,000 lbs gross on 11 axles, far above the federal 80,000-lb standard. Its no-fault auto system means commercial vehicle policies must include Michigan personal injury protection (PIP) and property protection coverage.
