"Admitted" means licensed by the state and backed by its guaranty fund; "surplus lines" means eligible to take risks the admitted market declines, without rate or form approval and, except in New Jersey (which has a separate surplus lines guaranty fund), without guaranty fund protection. Premium and rank come from state market share reports that list every company. This is a public-records directory, not a rating or recommendation; for the company's own filings use the NAIC's Consumer Information Source.
